After the National Age-Group Championships, I can see that interest is strong in the younger kids that took part. Many desire to have chess lessons. I was approached by quite a few parents whether I take in students for 1-1 lessons, but many may not be afford my rates.
So I am now offering to do a 4 part simplified series of my “Zoom
Class For Improvement” to those who wish to attend but are unable to afford 1-1
private lessons. However, parents need to know that there are of course
compromises to this approach:
a.
The topics cannot be tailored to suit each
child.
b.
The schedule has to be fixed so there is no way
of adjusting it
c.
Measuring progress is not in the scope of the
lesson
THE TOPICS
1
Visualisation and Board Awareness
2
Counting and Safety
3
How to study Chess Tactics
4
Opening Principles - and more!
These are important in giving direction to the child’s
development in his/her chess playing. Many times I’ve seen kids lose their
games owing to carelessness (leaving loose pieces to be captured, lack of board
vision (not knowing the coordinates and their colours) and some even playing
without looking their opponents’ reply to their move! Sadly there are little
resources on how to improve on these areas.
Hence I hope that if you are a parent reading this, please
send the web link so that we can gather
a group of minimum 10 students on Zoom
to learn. I will cap it to maximum 16. So it will cost $100 for the 4 sessions,
no refunds if you miss the session. Preferably the child should be at least 8
years old, able to focus on the lesson for 1 hour. Presentation slides will be
given of course. If you wish to receive the Video for the session, please pay
an additional $20 for each session (payment upon your request). All fees are
collected first via Paynow, after you register with an email to jfan2003@gmail.com with the heading “Zoom Class
for Improvement – Kids”.
I hope to start on 20 January Tuesday from 7pm.
Happy holidays and have a progressive 2026!
